Huntington Junior College, a comprehensive, open-admission private institution, recently awarded its prestigious Chester Riley Scholarship to Jennifer Guzman of Ashland, Kentucky.
The Chester Riley Scholarship was named after Huntington Junior College’s founder, Chester A. Riley, and has been presented for 45 years to students who score the highest on Huntington Junior College’s general knowledge exam that is administered to new students. The $15,600 award will cover all of the Mrs. Guzman’s tuition, books and fees for her to receive an Associate Degree in Court Reporting
“This is a big surprise to be receiving this award,” said Guzman. “I was going to be paying out-of-pocket to cover my expenses. I can’t tell you how helpful receiving this scholarship is.”
Mrs. Guzman is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin, but moved to Ashland, Kentucky, four years ago where she is currently employed at Legal Aid of the Bluegrass.
“Jennifer excelled on the general knowledge exam, and we are honored to award her with this scholarship,” said James Garrett, marketing & educational services director for Huntington Junior College. “We know that she will do very well, and we will be here every step of the way to assist her with her education and job placement needs.”
Huntington Junior College, committed to ensuring student learning, validating student outcomes, and promoting academic excellence through a qualified and dedicated faculty, staff, and administration, is located in the historic former Cabell County Public Library at 900 Fifth Avenue in Huntington, W.Va.
